During the Super Bowl XLVIII game, Disney got Marvel fans’ heart racing with a new movie teaser. Before the actual game begun, the teaser promoted a new Captain America: The Winter Soldier trailer. Fans were instructed to head online to see it; Marvel then released it on their Youtube page.

These are just some of the call names of a new messaging code that advertisers are trying to understand and speak themselves. They are the new social platforms—entirely mobile and thoroughly engaging, particularly for youth. Until recently, innovative social media marketing meant campaigns built for Facebook and Twitter, and maybe Tumblr.

After a lengthy stretch during which they served as exclusive category sponsors of the Academy Awards, Hyundai and Coca-Cola have decided to leave the red carpet behind. The automaker and soft drink giant told Adweek that they would not be buying time in this year’s Oscars gala, which is set to air Sunday, March 2 on ABC.

What’s changing? It partly is just changing the logo. Because you have to live on so many screens these days—some of them super small—the fewer letters they have in their names, the better.
